DAY 1: ARRIVE MELBOURNE

You'll be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the fabulous alfresco eateries or jump on a tram and enjoy international shopping. Overnight: Melbourne, choice of hotel for 3 nights

DAY 2: MELBOURNE & TRAMCAR DINNER

Depart with your driver/guide this morning for a city sights tour through Melbourne's lush parklands, elegant heritage and exciting architecture. Highlights include the Yarra River and activity on the city's extensive waterways. See Captain Cook's Cottage (own expense), Queen Victoria Market, Fitzroy Gardens and Albert Park-home to the Formula One Grand Prix. Visit the historic Shrine of Remembrance and view Southbank's waterfront. Return to your hotel mid-afternoon. Afternoon at leisure. This evening, dine aboard a beautifully restored, air-conditioned, 1927 tramcar as it trundles the streets of Melbourne (see page 22 for details). (D)

DAY 3: PHILLIP ISLAND PENGUINS TOUR

As you leave the city, your first stop is for a sumptuous homemade afternoon tea. Upon arrival at Phillip Island, you will visit the Koala Conservation Center, and then the Nobbies, home to Australia's largest Australian Fur Seal colony. Arrive at the Penguin Parade. Each evening at dusk penguins arrive onshore from their ocean feeding grounds, "walking and talking" loudly as they work their way into the dunes where their burrow nests are situated. The boardwalks enable you to gain close contact with the penguins in the dune area. Evening finishes with dinner, returning to Melbourne late evening. (D)
